Montgomery made the switch from wide receiver to running back midway through last season. The NFL wouldn’t allow Montgomery to change his number, so there was talks of him changing his number as soon as the season ended.
Also, with the Packers signing Martellus Bennett, many thought Montgomery would let Bennett have No. 88 since he wore the number last year as a member of the New England Patriots. However, Bennett went to Twitter to ask the fans which number he should wear and he did not list 88 as an option.
Montgomery led the Packers in rushing last season with 457 yards and three touchdowns. He along with Don Jackson are the only two running backs the Packers have under contract for 2017.
